The more common surgeries we perform in the perineal region include removal of the anal sacs, perineal tumor removal (malignant and benign), rectal cancer tumor removal, and reconstruction of the skin around the vulva in patients with severe secondary moist dermatitis. We do not perform as many surgeries for Perianal Fistulas now with the introduction over the past several years of proper medical management.

Proper understanding of the anatomy, oncologic surgical principals, and the need to achieve clean surgical margins is important in this area. The first surgery and proper planning is important.
